Day 77

It's late, you should probably be in bed.
Too bad for you this nagging feeling that something's not
quite right has been keeping you up.
Quietly padding downstairs you hear a shuffle.
It seems to be coming from the kitchen.
Stepping silently forward something brushes past your feet
and giggles as it moves away from you.

Taking a deep breath and gritting your teeth you move
into the kitchen.
The floor is wet beneath your feet and the faint glow of streetlights
through your window outline large lumps on the counters.
You try to turn on the light but it refuses to work.
You reach out towards the nearest lump, hoping that you are
asleep and that this is all a nightmare.

The lump is wet and warm.
It has a slow, steady pulse that gently thumps under your hand.
You feel the lump quiver and its flesh parts to reveal the largest eye
you've ever seen.
As it meets your gaze you feel the edges of your vision fade to black.

Faint laughter meets your ears and something catches you as you fall.
